Wilma M. 'Shortie' Youell Ensey

McALESTER — Wilma M. “Shortie” Youell Ensey, 94, of Kiowa, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at East Star Hospital in Muskogee.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. James Crowson officiating. Burial will be at Kiowa Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born Jan. 19, 1919, in Wesley, she was the daughter of John and Ada Youell. She married Aaron Bud Ensey on Aug. 7, 1938, in Wesley.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Missionary Society and did social work as well. She was also a member of Eastern Star Chapter 307 and attained the station of worthy matron.

After moving to Kiowa in 1954, she transferred to Chapter 65 and also the Methodist Church. She worked for Montgomery Ward, Wheelers Café, the United States Naval Ammunition Plant during World War II and the Korean War and for Lee’s restaurant for 18 years before retiring.

She was known for her baking, making fancy quilts and working in her flower garden.

Survivors include her granddaughter, Carla Clakley and husband, David, Houston, Texas; sister, Geneva Newsom, Denison, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Bud Ensey; son, Carl Ensey; daughter, Loucretia Barnnard; mother and father, John and Ada Youell; brothers, Edward, Noble and Wayne Youell; halfbrother, Alvis Stone, and sisters, Juanita Evans  and  Anna Lilly Ramsey.

Pallbearers will be Mike Sexton, Lee Lambert, Mike Kellogg, Jim Ward, Ron Hunt and Ken Doyle.

She moved to Edmond, OK, two months ago in order to be closer to her sons and family members. Bette was born on the family farm near Washington, OK, on March 11, 1930.
