Meridith Ann Bates, 82, of Wilburton, died Sunday, July 7, 2013.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Jones-Harkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Jones-Harkins Chapel. Burial will be at Lutie Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Harkins Funeral Home of Wilburton.
Born May 17, 1931, in Talihina, she was the daughter of Mattie (Moore) Baxter. She grew up in the Wilburton community.
She met Clarence Bates while working at the Green Frog Restaurant. The two were later married on Oct. 12, 1946, in Wilburton.
She was very active in the Choctaw Nation, enjoyed fishing and giving advice, was a renowned cook and found great joy in it. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include her son, Gary Bates and wife, Terry, of Wilburton; granddaughters, Sharry Lamberger and Jake Blackwood, and Candi Pate and husband, Tommy, all of Wilburton.
Also, grandson, Joe Bates and wife, Tiffany, of Wilburton; great-grandchildren, Martin Lamberger II, Miley Pate, Hurley Bates and Skylar Bates; sister, Charlene Little and husband, Jack, of Farmersville, Calif., and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mattie Baxter; husband, Clarence Bates; son, Charles Dale Bates, and sisters, Patsy Rader and Shirley Cass.
Pallbearers will be John Lindsay, Eric Donoley, Jerry Rigsby, Carlos Cummins and Dennis Deela.
