Billy Dwayne “Uncle Billy” Howell Sr., 70, of McAlester, died Monday, July 1, 2013, at his son’s home in Haywood.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Brumley-Mills Chapel with the Rev. Terry Brinkley officiating. Military honors will be provided by the McAlester Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1098. Arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
Born April 29, 1943, in Stuart, he was the son of Floyd and Pearl (Elms) Howell. He grew up in the Calvin and Stuart areas before settling in McAlester. He enjoyed working with cattle and spending time with his friends in North Town.
He served in the United States Navy for two tours of duty during the Viet Nam War. Upon returning, he worked as a mail clerk at the United States Army Ammunition Plant until his retirement.
Survivors include one daughter, Tanya Howell, of Muskogee; one son and daughter-in-law, Dwayne and Jeanna Howell, of McAlester; two granddaughters, McKinlee Howell and Jesseka Sanders; one great-grandson, Landon Sanders; three sisters, Ruth Wood, Betty Tedrick and Leona Glover; one brother, Benny Howell, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clyde and Joe Ray Howell; three sisters, Willa Stine, Kathalene Howell and Ida Grives; four nephews, Wendell Wood, Larry Dale Howell, Toby Ramy and Gary Don Martin, and two great-nephews, Winston Wood and Chris Manning.
