McALESTER — Robert “Bob” Lee Marvel Sr., 87, of McAlester, died, Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at McAlester Regional Health Center.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Jamie McKee officiating. Burial will follow. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born Nov. 9, 1924, in Thompsonville, Ill., he was the son of Charles Hensley and Minnie Mae (Vaughn) Marvel. He grew up in Illinois and joined the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.

Following his military service, he married Dorothy Paulk McKee in Henrietta, Texas, on Jan. 19, 1949. He worked as a coal miner in Illinois, a civilian police officer and maintenance at Tinker Air Force Base and as a commercial fishermen after retiring on Lake Eufaula.

He was a member of Blocker Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of the home; sons, Jim McKee and wife, Donna, of McAlester, Jack McKee and wife, Kay, of Eufaula, and Robert “Bob” Marvel Jr. and wife, Denna, of Oklahoma City; daughter, Dorcille Reed and husband, Bill, of Eufaula; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Minnie Marvel; daughter, Lana Faye; one brother and five sisters.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Reed, Jeff McKee, John Dunaway III, Joe McKee, Robert Marvel III, Jack McKee and Jerry McKee.
