Michael Ray Wood, of Edmond, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2013, at Oklahoma University Medical Center in Oklahoma City, from head injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Beginnings Church of McAlester. Arrangements are under the direction of Affordable Cremation of Oklahoma City.
Born March 8, 1989, in Independence, Kan., he was the son of Gloria Wood and Jeffrey Wood.
He moved to the McAlester area in November 1997. He attended Savanna Elementary School, McAlester Puterbaugh and McAlester High School, graduating with the Class of 2008.
He had been a member of Puterbaugh Band, 2007 State Champ Weightlifting Team, three years with MHS Buffalo football and one year wrestling.
He attended University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, where he had remained to live and work.
Survivors include his mother, Gloria Wood, of McAlester; his father, Jeffrey Wood, Junction City, Calif.; three brothers, Matthew Clayton Perry, of McAlester, Mitchell Lee Wood, Crestview, Fla., and Robert Thomas Wood, St. Louis, Mo.; nephew, Clayton Michael Perry, of McAlester; niece, Christine Michelle Perry, of McAlester.
Also, aunt, Anita Pilkington, Mound Valley, Kan.; uncle, Leon Newbanks, Dale City, Va.; paternal grandparents, Roy Tommy Wood, Hutchinson, Kan., and Vonda Rae Torres, of Copan; uncles, Randy Allen Wood, Wilmington, Del., Morgan Joel Wood, of Guymon, Anthony Joseph Torres, San Diego, Calif., and Christopher Joseph Torres, San Diego, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lloyd Clinton Newbanks, and Harold and Mildred Gray; maternal great-grandparents, Charley and Anna Walter, and Jess and Goldie Newbanks; paternal great-grandparents, Charlie and Novella Wood, and Raymond and Lucille Hodges; uncle, Terry Lee Wood, and cousin, Danny Lee Pilkington.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made final expenses.
