Sherman Alvin Edwards, 51, of McAlester, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at McAlester Regional Health Center.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tannehill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
Born Jan. 7, 1962, in McAlester, he was the son of Sherman Alan and Lenora (Rowell) Edwards. He grew up in the Indianola area, attending school there. When he was a senior in high school, he began working in the oil field and was able to finish his education at Crowder High School. He then began a full-time career working in the oil field, eventually becoming a driller.
He married Sirena Allensworth on Nov. 23, 2004, in Ulan, and they established their home in McAlester.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing, writing poetry and spending time with his friends and family.
Survivors include his wife, Sirena Edwards, of McAlester; mother, Lenora Edwards, of McAlester; sons, Nathan Busby, of Kentucky, Justin Edwards, of Missouri, Jared Edwards, of Enid, Michael Edwards, of McAlester, and Jacob Edwards, of McAlester; brothers, Charles Ray Edwards and Robert Edwards of McAlester.
Also, mother-in-law, Charlott Dean, of Hartshorne; sister-in-law, Patricia Beers and husband, Dan, of Wilburton; special niece, Charlie Dawn Edwards, of McAlester, and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sherman Alan Edwards; his brother, Vincent Edwards; paternal grandparents, Charley and Essie Edwards, and maternal grandparents, Lum and Ruby Rowell.
Pallbearers will be Randy Garner, Frank Short, Brack Bruce, Ernie Halliburton, David Botts and Robert Taylor.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Hill and Greg Barker.
