Ruth Ellen Griffin, 63, of Stonewall, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at a local hospital.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Stonewall First Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Craig of Fort Smith, Ark. officiating. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery at Stonewall. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home of Ada.
Born May 30, 1950, in McAlester, she was the daughter of Dolphus Edward and Sara Verneda Wilkins Craig. She attended Emerson Elementary school in McAlester and attended McAlester High School. She also attended East Central University.
She married William Griffin on Oct. 31, 1966, in McAlester. She was currently the administrative programs officer at Pontotoc County Health Department, where she had worked for 27 years.
Before joining the health department, she was employed at Blue Bell for several years and had also worked for Stonewall School System as a teacher’s aide.
She was a member of Oklahoma Public Employees Association and active with Special Olympics at Stonewall. She participated in the Relay for Life every year.
Survivors include her husband, William Chester Griffin, of the home; two sons, William Chester Griffin Jr. and wife, Rashnah, Largo, Fla., and Craig Irvin Griffin and wife, Marlis Osborne, of Stonewall; three grandchildren, William Chester Griffin III, Largo, Courtney Griffin, of Roff, and Kendra Ruth Ellen Griffin, of Stonewall.
Also, a sister, Elizabeth McGee and her partner, Jon Shirley, Seven Points, Texas; and a brother, Robert E. Craig and wife, Lisa, of Yukon.
