Clara Theresa Mehan

McALESTER — Clara Theresa Mehan, 80, of McAlester, died Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Mitchell Manor.

Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Church.

A Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Church celebrated by the Rev. Leonard Higgins. Arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born March 31, 1933, in Chandler, she was the daughter of John Allen and Edna Lee (Smith) Simon. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Oklahoma City and graduated in 1951.

She married Ralph Edward “Bud” Mehan Jr. on Jan. 9, 1954. She was a homemaker, mother of six children, and then later worked as a seamstress in a retail shop. 

Survivors include a brother, Chuck Simon; sons, Chuck Mehan and wife, Brenda, Chris Mehan, and David Mehan; daughters, Margaret Mehan, Kathy Wood and husband, Steve, and Mary Faletto and husband, Steve.

Also, grandchildren, Josh Arnett and wife, Alea, Jeremy Mehan and wife, Ryan, Victoria Lapham and husband, Kevin, Theresa Gunn and husband, Chris, Titus Caldwell and wife, Kim, Rachel Heilaman and husband, Jimmy, Aimee Eaton, John Gibson and wife, Kristy, Ashley Raines and husband, James, Alisha Deloera and husband, Tony, Flisha, David Jr. and Tristin Mehan, and Ashley O’Connor; great-grandchildren, Dallas, Nick, Nate, Sophie, Carlee, Jaxon, Evan, Landon, Baylee, Parker, Anthony, Adrian, Isaac and Ada. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Mehan; parents, John and Edna Simon; brothers, JA Simon and Lawrence Simon; sisters, Beryl Pickett, Mary Alvera Simon and Joan Walker, and sons-in-law, Nathan Caldwell and Tom Simmons.

Memorials may be made to Catholic Charities of McAlester.

    Alyce Yvonne Knight Lerblance was born on November 21, 1923, in Pittsburg, Oklahoma, to Fred C. and Letha Mae Knight.  She was the fourth of seven children born to Fred and Letha Knight.  Alyce grew up in Wilburton and graduated with the class of 1941 and was a graduate of Eastern State A & M in Wilburton.

She moved to Edmond, OK, two months ago in order to be closer to her sons and family members. Bette was born on the family farm near Washington, OK, on March 11, 1930.
