Ida Faye Rock

Ida Faye Rock was born to Virgie Hopper Edge and Arch Elbert Edge in Hartshorne, Oklahoma on May 16, 1926. She passed to her Heavenly Reward on July 8, 2014 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

When she finished High School in Pittsburg, Oklahoma, she moved to McAlester and went to work at The McAlester News Capital. Here she met and married Melvyn Atlee Rock. They were married on Christmas Eve, 1947. Over the next three decades they owned a succession of small businesses and business partnerships in McAlester and Tulsa.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ginger and Rick Weddle, of Winter Park, Florida, and son and daughter-in-law, Robert (Bob) and Denise Rock, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and four grandsons, Ryan Weddle and Gina Stickney Weddle, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Kyle Rock, MD and Karinna Avila Rock, of Tulsa, Daniel Rock and Jordan Godfrey Rock, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Tyler Rock of Tulsa, twin granddaughters, Emily Weddle and Brandon Canfield, of Marquette, Michigan, and Meredith Weddle D'Amore and Andrew D'Amore, of Alexandria, Virginia, and one great-granddaughter, Susanna Louise Rock, of Tulsa. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Velma Vieux, of Atoka, sisters-in-law, Gladys Rock Hulsey, of McAlester, and Erna Hanselmann Rock, of Tulsa, and brothers-in-law, John Rock Junior, Zelmer Lee Rock and Peggy Burke Rock, of Tulsa, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ida Faye was preceded in death by her husband, Melvyn Atlee Rock, on February 1, 1976. She was also preceded by her brothers and their spouses and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. These included Doyle Edge and Ruby Mae Hammond Edge, Elbert Edge and Lillian Richardson Edge, Earl Edge, Clarence Edge (infant), Clarence Vieux, Vernon Rock and Josephine Foross Rock, Elmer Rock and Gladys Hilton Rock, Levi "Duck" Rock and Helen Mooney Rock, James Dawson Rock and John Lawson Rock (twin children), Ada Rock McKaskle and Paul McKaskle, Ida Rock Tapp and Ralph Tapp, Curtis Rock, and Coy Rock.

Mrs. Rock raised her family in McAlester, Oklahoma where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. In the mid-1980s, she moved to Tulsa to be close to her adult children and was a member of Parkview Baptist Church. Throughout her life she was an active volunteer in many organizations, particularly at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. While she often worked in the family businesses, she was the ultimate homemaker and caregiver for those she loved.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial service in celebration of her life on Saturday, July 12 at First Baptist Church in McAlester, Oklahoma at 11:00 am. The service will be conducted by Rev. Rodney Briggs. Visitation will be Friday evening at Bishop Funeral Home from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
