McALESTER — Billie Louise Cathey, 77, of Hartshorne, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at her home.

Funeral arrangements are pending with Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of Hartshorne.

Chester Walter Raleigh

Chester Walter Raleigh, died Wednesday, July 20, 2013.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 3 at Scottsdale Baptist Church with fellowship following. Arrangements are under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home of Sulphur Springs, Texas.

Born June 27, 1922, in McAlester, he was the son of Harry and Amy Freeman Raleigh. He grew up in the McAlester and Savanna areas, graduating from Savanna High School.

After graduation, he joined the United States Navy and served as an electrician/carpenter aboard a submarine. He spent time in both Pearl Harbor and Midway during World War II.

He married Evelyn Coker, of Savanna, on Dec. 22, 1946. They moved to El Paso, Texas, where he worked at Standard Oil Refinery for 35 years, and that is where he had lived the past 66 years.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and camping. He helped neighborhood children with many 4-H activities.

He and his wife were members of the High-Flying Sams and lifetime members of the Good Sam organization. He attended Scottsdale Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Carol Ann and Gaylon O’Dell, Yantis, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Linda Raleigh, of Tulsa; grandchildren Brenna and Jeff Patton, Euless, Texas, Cara O’Dell, Euless, Kyle Raleigh, of Tulsa, and Jenny and Taylor Royal, of El Paso, Texas; great-grandchildren, Hannah Patton, Gracyn Raleigh, and Creed and Eastan Royal, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his wife, Evelyn; a son, Harry Walter Raleigh; three brothers, Lester Raleigh, P.V. Raleigh and Gene Raleigh, and three sisters, Hester Raleigh-Sparks, Murlene Raleigh-Kimball and Carrie Raleigh-Adams.
