Ronnie Lee Sillmon Sr.

McALESTER — Ronnie Lee Sillmon Sr., 63, of Krebs, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at his home.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at North Town Cemetery with Jay Peters officiating. Military honors will be provided by McAlester Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1098. Burial will be at North Town Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born May 8, 1950, in McAlester, he was the son of John and Judy (Sillmon) Newport. He grew up here and graduated from McAlester High School in 1968.

He then joined the United States Navy, serving in Vietnam for almost four years. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, he returned to McAlester and went to work as a pipe fitter/welder at the U.S. Army Ammunition Plant, retiring after 27 years of service.

He married Annette Utterback on Oct. 31, 1973, in McAlester. He was a life-member of McAlester VFW Post 1098 where he held offices of Junior and Senior Vice Commander, Quartermaster, and was currently the service officer. Survivors include his wife, Annette Sillmon, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Kimberlee and Brice Ott, of McAlester; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie Lee Jr. and Gwen Sillmon, of Hays, Kan.; his mother, Judy Newport.

Also, seven brothers and five sisters-in-law, Jim and Nancy Barton, of McAlester, John Newport, of McAlester, Henry and Debbie Newport, of McAlester, Paul and Sherry Newport, of Alderson, Bill and Cynthia Newport, of McAlester, Larry and Ngoc Newport, of Oklahoma City, and Jeff Newport, of McAlester; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Ann McCraw, of Tulsa, and Mary and Randy Harmon, Lewisville, Texas; three grandchildren, Sam Harris, Hayden Sillmon and Chloe Sillmon; his mother-in-law, Jimmie Ann Utterback; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim and Karrie Utterback, of Seminole, and Howard and Janelle Peters, of McAlester, and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Newport, and his father-in-law, Jim Utterback.

Pallbearers will be John Newport, Billy Newport, Jay Aldridge, Chester Johnson, Roger Vermillion and Paul Newport.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of VFW Post 1098.

She moved to Edmond, OK, two months ago in order to be closer to her sons and family members. Bette was born on the family farm near Washington, OK, on March 11, 1930.
