McALESTER — Billy Dwayne Howell Sr., 70, of McAlester, died Monday, July 1, 2013, at Haywood.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2013, at the  Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester with the Rev. Terry Brinkley officiating. Military honors will be provided by the McAlester VFW Post 1098.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

He was born on April 29, 1943, in Stuart to Floyd and Pearl (Elms) Howell. He grew up in the Calvin-Stuart area before settling in McAlester. He enjoyed working with cattle and spending time with his friends in North Town.  

He served in the U. S. Navy for two tours of duty during the Vietnam War and later worked as a mail clerk at the Army Ammunition Plant until his retirement

He is survived by a daughter, Tanya Howell, of Muskogee; a son and daughter-in-law, Dwayne and Jeanna Howell, of McAlester; two granddaughters, McKinlee Howell and Jesseka Sanders; a great-grandson, Landon Sanders; three sisters, Ruth Wood, Betty Tedrick and Leona Glover; one brother, Benny Howell, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clyde and Joe Ray Howell; three sisters, Willa Stine, Kathalene Howell and Ida Grives; four nephews, Wendell Wood, Larry Dale Howell, Toby Ramy and Gary Don Martin, and two great-nephews, Winston Wood and Chris Manning.
