McALESTER — Wayne Gene Meaders, 84, of McAlester, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Mitchell Manor Convalescent Center in McAlester.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Pryor Cemetery Chapel in Stuart with the Rev. Jim Gantt officiating. Burial will be at Pryor Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born April 19, 1930, in Ashland, he was the son of O.F. and Vera (Wimberly) Meaders. He grew up and received his education in Ashland, graduating high school in 1948.

Following high school, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He married Mildred “Millie” Turpen on April 12, 1958, in Reno, Nev. They made their home in California, where he worked in the cement business.

In 1976, they retired to Stuart, where he found enjoyment in ranching. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and tinkering.

Survivors include his son, Nate Meaders and wife, Kari, of Checotah; grandchildren, Cory Meaders, of Tahlequah, Ty Meaders, of Checotah, and Kira Meaders, of Checotah; sister, Helen Burkes and husband, Bill, of Claremore.

Also, sisters-in-law, Gwen Meaders, of Randlett, Mary Nell Meaders, of Burkburnett, Texas, JoAnn Smith, of Seminole, and Judy Pratt, of Elkhart, Texas; brother-in-law, Chester Watts, of Norman; special cousins, Dewey Wimberly and wife, Pat, of Stuart, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, O.F. Meaders; his mother, Vera (Wimberly) Meaders; stepmother, Eula Meaders; wife, Mildred “Millie” Meaders, on Nov. 20, 2010; sister, Lorreta Watts; brothers, Marl Meaders and Wayland Meaders, and an infant brother, Owen Meaders.

Honorary pallbearers will be Cory Meaders, Ty Meaders, Brent Burkes, Levi Wimberly and Dale Wimberly.
