Earmel C. McKinzie

McALESTER — Earmel C. McKinzie, 87, of the Ash Creek Community, died Saturday, May 10, 2014, at his home.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brumley-Mills Chapel with special friend, Doug Scott, and the Rev. Marvin Ginn officiating. Burial will be at Ash Creek Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Robert B. Thomas Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1098. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born Aug. 3, 1926, in Shamrock, he was the son of Ethel Charles and Nan (Decker) McKinzie. He married Beulah L. Zachary on Aug. 13, 1949, in McAlester.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II as Seaman 2nd Class. He retired from the U.S. Army Ammunition Plant in 1993.

He took care of and maintained Ash Creek Cemetery along with his wife, April, from 1964 until September 2008. He enjoyed farming, raising cattle and riding horses. He was a member of Ash Creek Union Church.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy Paulette Holliday-Irvin and Roy Lee Holliday, of McAlester, and Mary Gayle (McKinzie) and Randolph Scott, of McAlester; five grandchildren and spouses, Tammy Bethune, of McAlester, Kathy McDaniel, of McAlester, Angie and Todd Smith, of Quinton, Misty Dawn and Dustin Vicars, of McAlester, and Randy Clifton and Louisa Scott, of McAlester; 10 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; sister, Edna Sharp, of McAlester, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah McKinzie; parents, Ethel Charles and Nan McKinzie; brother, Meryl McKinzie, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert and Mary Zachary.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Vicars, Todd Smith, Marshall Gibson, Leonard Brojakowski and Doug Scott.

Honorary pallbearers will be longtime friends and church members, Willie Jr. Traylor, Dennis Cantrell, Claude Lively, Harry Oneth, Bill Thornton, Kenneth Southard, Arvil Bice, Clyde Crowson, Mathew Kemp and Gerald Wilson.

    Alyce Yvonne Knight Lerblance was born on November 21, 1923, in Pittsburg, Oklahoma, to Fred C. and Letha Mae Knight.  She was the fourth of seven children born to Fred and Letha Knight.  Alyce grew up in Wilburton and graduated with the class of 1941 and was a graduate of Eastern State A & M in Wilburton.

She moved to Edmond, OK, two months ago in order to be closer to her sons and family members. Bette was born on the family farm near Washington, OK, on March 11, 1930.
