Irene M. Thain, 92, of McAlester, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at her daughter’s home in Chandler
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. March 8 at All Saints’ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Stephanie Swinnea officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Affordable Cremations.
Born April 16, 1921, in Wilburton, she was the daughter of John and Sylvia Boyle. She attended grade school in Norman and continued her education at the University of Oklahoma, majoring in journalism.
After serving two years in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II, she married Carl Thain on May 29, 1948, in Norman. They were longtime residents of McAlester and owners of C.E. Thain Company for more than 30 years.
She had many hobbies and enjoyed painting, photography, traveling and volunteering.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Marty Winn, of Chandler; grandchildren, Hillary Winn and Bryan Will; Goddaughter, Susan Ely Hatter, Donna Ely and family, Brad Brager, Art Keller and Judy Brager, Amanda, Shawn and Caroline Calaway, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Sylvia Boyle; husband, Carl Thain, and two sisters, Virginia Brager and Theda Wiese.
