McALESTER — Charles Porter, 81, of McAlester, died Saturday, May 26, 2012, at St. Francis Medical Center in Tulsa.

Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. today at Hillcrest Cemetery in Weleetka with the Rev. John Clements officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born March 24, 1931, in Weleetka, he was the son of Charles and Birdie (Ross) Porter. He served in the United States Army and married Sue Baird on Feb. 18, 1955, in Okmulgee.

He was a carpenter and cabinet maker. He built houses from the ground up. His experience was gained by working with his father, going to school and working as an architectural draftsman. He also instructed others on the different stages of construction.

He was a member of the Eufaula Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Porter, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck and Daleen Porter, of Owasso, and Wesley Dean and Jennifer Lee Porter, of McAlester; one daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Sue and George Black, of McAlester; grandchildren and spouse, Rachel Porter, Ashlynn Porter, Hannah Porter, Amanda and Josheb English and Melissa Black; a great-granddaughter, Giana English; one sister, Lorene Webster, of Tulsa, and one brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Brenda Porter, of Okmulgee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Jackie Dean Porter.
