C.W. Barnes Jr.

McALESTER — C.W. Barnes Jr., 76, of McAlester, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at his home.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Brumley-Mills Chapel.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Brumley-Mills Chapel. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1098 of McAlester. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born Jan. 11, 1938, in Shawnee, he was the son of Clarence W. and Ethel Louise (Hughes) Barnes Sr. He grew up in Shawnee until he joined the United States Army.

He married Connie Marie Ruffiato in 1960 and made their home in McAlester. He worked at Brown Distribution Company for several years, eventually as the manager. He also had worked in the oil and gas fields, at the U.S. Army Ammunition Plant and as a correctional officer at Oklahoma State Penitentiary.

He enjoyed fishing, camping and Harley-Davidson motorcycles and was a member of the Knights Car Club of Shawnee.

Survivors include one daughter, Tish Barnes, of McAlester; one son, Randy Barnes, of McAlester; one sister and brother-in-law, Connie Lou Barnes-Eggleston and husband, Steve, of Shawnee; three grandchildren, Montana Hammonds and husband, J.W.,  of McAlester, Chad Waldron and Kayli Payne, of McAlester, and Justin Waldron, of McAlester, and cousins, Orville and Linda Anderson, Vacaville, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Connie, who died in 2008, and his grandparents, John W. and Laura (Muller) Barnes.

Pallbearers will be Albert Smith, Marty Isbel, Ricky Southard, Robert Gillispie, Jed Land and Randy Martin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Gibson and Ralph Fink.

    Heaven opened its gates for Bette Jo Williams, 84, on Saturday, July 19, 2014, following a brief illness with pancreatic cancer. Bette lived in McAlester, OK, for 60 years. She moved to Edmond, OK, two months ago in order to be closer to her sons and family members. Bette was born on the family farm near Washington, OK, on March 11, 1930.
