Ricky D. 'Rick' Huddleston

McALESTER — Ricky D. “Rick” Huddleston, 56, of McAlester, died Sunday, April 6, 2014, at McAlester Regional Medical Center.

The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Bishop Funeral Service.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Kiowa Public School Auditorium. Burial will be at Laura McGee Cemetery in Buffalo Valley. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born Aug. 11, 1957, in McAlester, he was the son of Dale and Betty Louise (Quigley) Huddleston. He grew up in Talihina and graduated high school from Buffalo Valley.

He was a longtime and well-accomplished steer wrestler. He was a contestant and finalist in the International Professional Rodeo Association circuit numerous times. He was a four time National Finals Rodeo contestant. He was the 1998 Dodge National Circuit Finals Steer Wrestling Champion.

He also served as the Steer Wrestling Director for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. He was a Cowboys Regional Rodeo Association contestant and Finals Qualifier. He held gold cards for IPRA, PRCA and CRRA. He later found enjoyment in judging various rodeo competitions.

He had most recently been employed by Oklahoma Department of Transportation where he served as a supervisor.

He married Gail Phillips on May 22, 1993.

He enjoyed helping and watching his daughter, participate in livestock shows. He was also a huge Kiowa basketball fan.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Huddleston, of the home; daughter, Hannah Huddleston, of the home; parents, Dale and Betty Huddleston, of Talihina; two brothers, Gary Huddleston and wife, Cindy, of Poteau, and Danny Huddleston and wife, Sheri, Pollock, La.; sister, Kay Huddleston, of Talihina, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ben and Gladys Huddleston, and his maternal grandparents, Theodore and Oleta Quigly.

Pallbearers will be Sam Duvall, Roy Duvall, Bill Duvall, Jim White, Ote Berry, Jack Wiseman and Gary Sparks.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Bush, Steve Tripp, Mike McMahan, Bryan Crow, Eli Bowen, Rodney Stincome, Rick Kerns, John Thompson, Pat Thornton, Joe Morris, Larry McFarland, Ashley Vaughn, W.F. Grammar and the Antlers ODOT staff.
