Margaret M. Rogers, 88, of McAlester, died Friday, April 19, 2013, at McAlester Nursing Center.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pryor Cemetery in Stuart. Burial will follow.
Arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home.
She was born Sept. 2, 1924, in Stuart to William K. Shirley and Mary Ann (Foster) Shirley.
She married William Jesse Rogers in 1944 and attended college at East Central University in Ada. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education and began her teaching career at the age of 18 in a one-room school in Pryor.
She taught at Pittsburg High School for more than 15 years before retiring.
She was a member of Eastern Star and Stuart Methodist Church. She enjoyed quilting and visiting her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Bill C. Rogers and family, of Ronan, Mont., Tom Rogers and family of Las Vegas, Nev., and Hugh Rogers, of McAlester; daughter, Shirley Ann Sumner and family, of Midwest City; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister and three brothers.
