Elma Eddie Hise Rodd

McALESTER — Elma Eddie Hise Rodd, 82, of Tecumseh, died Friday, July 13, 2012, in Shawnee.

Wake services will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Shawnee.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Benedict Catholic Church.

Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service of Shawnee.

Born Sept. 2, 1929, in Denver, Colo., she was the daughter of Erwin Ray and Mary Alice Harlan Hise.

She entered St. Vincent Academy Catholic School for girls in Albuquerque, N.M., before her fifth birthday and graduated at the age of 16.

She worked at American Red Cross and in the anthropology department at the University of New Mexico.

She met and later married Samuel Edward Rodd, who was in the hospital medical corps of the United States Navy.

She enjoyed dancing and gardening.

They dated for several years and married Oct. 12, 1949.

During her years as a Navy wife, she traveled to many places.

Their first child had been through 28 states by the time he was one year old.

After her husband’s retirement from the Navy, they settled in the community of Tannehill, northwest of McAlester, where she was a housewife and bookkeeper for Rio Grande Blood Plasma.

She moved to Tecumseh in 1979.

Besides her love to dance, she was an avid gardener.

She was very involved in the lives of all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She especially enjoyed working for People First. She, along with other friends, worked for the non-profit self-advocacy group run by, and for, people with development disabilities.

She started working for People First in 1988 and continued as a volunteer until her death.

Survivors include a son, Frank and Jan Rodd; daughter, Leona and Stacy Blakemore; and daughter, Karla Rodd.

Also, nine grandchildren, Clyde Wilkins, Christa and Curt Hessen, Veronica and Keith Stidham, Jessica Bautista and Gary Clowdus, Casci and Justin Schafer, Mika and Brad Hicklin, Megan and Matthew O’Brien, Meredith Roop, and Matthew and Amber Roop.

Also, 20 great-grandchildren, Dustin Sherwood, Cassidy Wilkins, Caylor, Chaden and Carrington Hessen, Ivy Langham, Mercedes Platt, Annabel Stidham, Ellenore Suke, Angelina Bautista, Castin and Jasci Schafer, Miley Hicklin, Skylar and Patrick O’Brien, Mason, Isaac, Abigail, Mary Lynn and Gabriel Roop.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, and daughter, Mary Rodd Roop.
