H.L. ‘Spec’ Little

H.L. “Spec” Little. 90, formerly of McAlester, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014.

Family will receive friends on Friday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester.

There will be a committal service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Memory Gardens Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of McAlester.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester.

He was born in Lorenza, Texas on June 27, 1924. He grew up in Oklahoma City. He left high school to serve his country in WW II.  After returning from the war, he met and married Betty Southall in January of 1949. He and Betty moved to McAlester, in 1956, for him to work as a salesman for Sunshine Biscuit Company. He called on the grocery stores in McAlester and the surrounding area for 20 years. After working as a cookie salesman, he worked in several odd jobs around town, selling insurance, carpet and cars. His last few years of work were spent working for Miller Glass. He also loved wood working. He had his own company named Enjoyatoy where he made and sold his work with the help of Betty.

He was a very active member of First Baptist Church. He was regularly seen at the front door of the church to meet and greet every Sunday for over 50 years. He and Betty were married for 65 years until she died March 19 this year.

He is survived by his children, Pam and Ron Kurtz, Harvey and Kay Little, and Sherre and David Land; grandchildren, Amy Kurtz Chambers, Jeremy Little, Andrea Land Ryan, Lindsey Kurtz Thompson, Stephen Little, Erin Land and Joshua Kurtz; eight great-grandchildren; and extended family, Neil and Mary Leffler.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Southall Little.

    Alyce Yvonne Knight Lerblance was born on November 21, 1923, in Pittsburg, Oklahoma, to Fred C. and Letha Mae Knight.  She was the fourth of seven children born to Fred and Letha Knight.  Alyce grew up in Wilburton and graduated with the class of 1941 and was a graduate of Eastern State A & M in Wilburton.

She moved to Edmond, OK, two months ago in order to be closer to her sons and family members. Bette was born on the family farm near Washington, OK, on March 11, 1930.
