Mary Elizabeth Ashmore

McALESTER — Mary Elizabeth Ashmore, 92, of McAlester, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at a local nursing center.

Funeral services and burial were Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery, officiated by Gerald Heggie.

Service arrangements were under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service.

Born July 20, 1921, in London, Ark., she was the daughter of Harvey and Lura (Tucker) Emerton.

She grew up in Russellville, Ark. and married W.P. “Bill” Ashmore in 1938 in Russellville, Ark.

They moved to McAlester in 1957.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, gardening and fishing.

She also enjoyed caring for her family and grandchildren.

She was a member of the “A” Street Church of Christ.

She is survived by daughters, Betty Lou Moore, of Fayetteville, Ark., Pam Wilson, and husband, Monroe, of Benton, Ark. and Paula Bussey, and husband, Jeral, of McAlester; daughter-in-law,Patricia Ashmore, of Heber Springs, Ark; grandchildren, Jimmy Ashmore, Paul Michael Wilson and wife, Mandy, Jeffrey Don Ashmore and wife, Dusty, Tammy Sue Woody and husband, Roger, Jana Lynn Miller and husband, Otto, Jennifer Renae Toman and husband, Ben, Amy Thrasher Wilson and Ryan Thrasher; great grandchildren, Kassady, Hayden, Summer, Skylar, Autumn, Ashton, Cameron, Jordan, Libby, Max, Madisen, Madalyn, Allie, Kendon,Gunner and Dalynn; cousin, Bobby and Marilyn Thrasher; and numerous cousins, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Lura Emerton; husband, W.P.“Bill”Ashmore, in 2001; son, Billy Jack Ashmore; two brothers and one sister.

Honorary pallbearers will be  Jimmy Ashmore, Paul Michael Wilson, Jeffrey Don Ashmore, Tammy Sue Woody, Jana Lynn Miller, Jennifer Renae Toman, Ryan Thrasher and Amy Thrasher Wilson. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the “A” Street Church of Christ and the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
