Cameron Andrew Smith

McALESTER — Cameron Andrew Smith, 31, of Wilburton, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, in Oklahoma City.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at P.J. Smith Auditorium in Wilburton with Darren Harber officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Wilburton. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Harkins Funeral Home of Wilburton.

Born Nov. 14, 1981, in Austin, Texas, he was the son of Barry Smith and Debra Young. He moved with his family to Wilburton in 1982. He attended Wilburton Public Schools, graduating in 2000.

After high school he attended Northeastern State University for three semesters before having to withdraw due to medical illness.

He met his wife, Melissa, also from Wilburton, in 2003 and they married in 2010. They had one son.

He was diagnosed with chronic myelomonocytic leukemia in August 2010. While battling leukemia, he was able to complete his education at Northeastern State University, earning a bachelors degree of science in psychology.

He enjoyed an eclectic taste in music, film and the arts and was an avid reader and cult comic book fan. He spent most of his time enjoying the adventures of life with his wife and son and making memories with his large circle of family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Melissa Jo Smith, of the home; son, Jack Bradley Smith, of the home; brothers and sisters, Glen and Kaci Smith, Brynn and Derek Phillips, Taylor and Melissa Smith,  Jesus Lomeli, Shane Smith, Jayme Steele and Matthew Steele; father, Barry Smith and wife, Stacy; mother, Debra Young-Allen and husband, Gary.

Also, paternal grandparents, Albert and Wanda Smith; maternal grandmother, Nell Young; nieces and nephews, Madden Smith, Lainey Smith, Miguel Lomeli, Chloe Phillips, Kendall Phillips, Mattilynn Steele and Tyler Haynes; aunts and uncles, Larry and Vicki Smith, Sherry and Brent Tipton, Sharon and Randy Custard, Greg and Stephanie Young, Roger and Sue Young and Sandra Young, and cousins, John Tipton, Christopher Young, Kelsey Young, Kyle Young, Mark Taylor, Tony Young, Alex Young, Richard Young, Matthew Custard and Brad Custard.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Murray Taylor Young.

Pallbearers will be Glen Smith, Taylor Smith, Shane Smith, Ryan Brinlee, Zac Royer, Eric Donoley, Chad Donoley, Luke Mitchell, Oliver Skimbo and Joseph Malone.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Langston, Luke Underwood, Jonathan Taylor, Willie Lenard, Jesus Lomeli, Trent Hardaway, Colby Lauerman, Json Valenzuela and Chad Lawrence.
