Marvin Forrest Burnett

McALESTER — Marvin Forrest Burnett, 90, of Krebs, died Monday, July 1, 2013, at McAlester Regional Health Center.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Brumley-Mills Chapel with the Rev. Jody Domingue officiating. Burial will be at Kiowa Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born Dec. 18, 1922, in Chandler, Ariz., he was the son of Charles Marvin and Ida Mae (Dillinder) Burnett. He grew up there and attended Arizona State University, earning a bachelors degree in civil engineering.

In 1953 he moved to California where he worked as an engineer and surveyor for an irrigation project. He then went to work for McDonald-Douglass aircraft manufacturing until his retirement.

He moved to Oklahoma in 1976 where he worked as a correctional officer at the state prison for 13 years. After his retirement, he spent his time doing volunteer work at the hospital, Meals of Wheels and at his church, Victory Park Baptist Church, where he helped in the church soup kitchen.

He also enjoyed farming and gardening, as well, and fishing.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. He was a member of McAlester Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1098.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Burnett, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Jim Hamberlin, Mesa, Ariz.; one stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Royce and Joyce Jackson, of McAlester; six grandchildren in Arizona and seven stepgrandchildren in Oklahoma; 21 great-grandchildren and 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first two wives, Connie and Mildred; three children; four stepchildren; three brothers, and one sister.

Pallbearers will be Royce Jackson, Lonnie Jackson, Ronnie Jackson, Bennie Jackson, Curtis Parham, Ron Vickers, Alan Stasny and Eric Goosetree.
