Elizabeth (Ward) Kitchens, 86, of Talihina, died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Talihina Manor Nursing Home.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, at LeFlore Baptist Church, officiated by J. Paul Wilcox.
Interment will follow at LeFlore Cemetery.
Services are under direction of Bishop Funeral Service.
Born Dec. 29, 1926, in LeFlore, she was the daughter of Robert Lee and Lucy Amanda (French) Ward.
She grew up in LeFlore County and graduated from LeFlore High School.
She worked at Tinker Field during WWII.
She received her education at Eastern Oklahoma State College and Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
She married Charles D. Kitchens on Aug. 11, 1949, in Durant.
She taught school for 37 years and retired in 1988. She taught school at Summerfield, Cameron, Panola, Leon, Buffalo Valley, Sasakwa and Crowder schools.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and a longtime member of the Crowder First Baptist Church where she served as treasurer, worked in the nursery and kitchen.
She also cooked at church camp for many years, and took care of the flowers at her church. She was also a volunteer at the hospital in McAlester.
She enjoyed flowers, her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Joe Kitchens and wife, Cindy of Yukon, Steve Kitchens and wife, Cathy, of Crowder; one brother, Bill Ward and wife, Shirley of LeFlore, sisters-in-law, Edith Ward, of LeFlore, Shelba Ward of LeFlore, and Marlene Ward, of LeFlore; grandchildren, Erik Kitchens and wife Kim, of Crowder, Dominie Dew and husband, Rad, of Casper, Wyo., Charlie Kitchens and wife, Holly, of Kuala Lampur, Malaysia, Tracy Kitchens of Yukon, Stacy Kitchens and wife, Coni, of Cashion, Carolyn Anyong and husband, Jeff, of Oklahoma City, Steven Kitchens and wife, Jessica, of Springdale, Ark., Kim Kitchens and Jason Burgess, of Skiatook; and, 23 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Kitchens; her parents, Bob and Lucy Ward; brothers, Robert Lee Ward, Jr., Johnny James Ward, Jerry Don Ward and Allen Walters; sisters, Virginia Gibbs and JoAnn Bontley.
Active pallbearers will be Erik Kitchens, Charlie Kitchens, Steven Kitchens, Tracy Kitchens, Stacy Kitchens, Jeff Anyong and Edward Nelson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Grady Kirkes, Donnie Kirkes, Clyde Kitchens, Neal Kitchens, Kenneth Kitchens, Carroll Kitchens, Rad Dew.
Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Children’s Hospital.
