Walter Paul Ford, 64, formerly of McAlester

McALESTER — Walter Paul Ford, 64, formerly of McAlester, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, in Mobile, Ala.

The family will receive visitors Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Bishop Funeral Home.

Funeral services are Monday at 2 p.m. at the Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Fred Morrison officiating. Burial will follow at the Hugh Low Cemetery in Scipio. Military honors will be provided by the Robert B. Thomas Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post 1098.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

He was born March 5, 1948, in Bakersfield, Calif., to Benny Lewis Ford Sr. and Alta Lavanda Ogle Ford. His family later moved to McAlester where he attended McAlester public schools. He was drafted into the United States Army on Nov. 1, 1967, serving during Vietnam. He received his honorable discharge on Aug. 5, 1969. Later he also served in the United States Navy on the USS Forrestal as a hydraulic expert.

After serving in the military, he moved to Arizona for a short while before returning to McAlester in 1972. He worked various jobs including working as a truck driver with Junior Amos and later worked for a local construction company for a number of years before moving to Alabama.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and the companionship with his friends, but his greatest love was for children and his family.

He is survived by his wife, Lee Ford, of Ala.; a daughter, Deloris Tapia, of Ariz.; and step-children, Zeke Freeny, of N.Y., Anthony Freeny, of Ala., Rodney Freeny, of Ala., Mark Freeny, of Ala., Chris Freeny, of Ala., Alton Jones, of Ken., and Tracy Jones, of Fla.

Also, sisters, Joann Lott, of McAlester, Geneva Anderson, of McAlester, Edith Holbrook and husband, Guy, of McAlester, Lynn Morrison and husband, Fred, of Scipio, Carolyn Key, of Oklahoma City; brothers, John Ford, of Springfield, Ore., and Benny Ford, of Jacksonville, Fla., and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Louise Hampton and Betty Ellison; brothers-in-law, Glover Lott and Carl Anderson, and sisters-in-law, Maxine Ford and Debbie Ford.

Pallbearers are Mark McManus, Buddy Perkins, Daniel Morrison, Paula Morrison, John Clemons and Cody Frazier.

Honorary Pallbearers are Eddie Wilson, Trey Ardese, Roger Key, Dan Wagenknecht, Larry Herron and Jim Cox.

    Heaven opened its gates for Bette Jo Williams, 84, on Saturday, July 19, 2014, following a brief illness with pancreatic cancer. Bette lived in McAlester, OK, for 60 years. She moved to Edmond, OK, two months ago in order to be closer to her sons and family members. Bette was born on the family farm near Washington, OK, on March 11, 1930.
