Carolyn Rose Hawkins

McALESTER — Carolyn Rose Hawkins, 72, of McAlester, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at McAlester Regional Health Center.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brumley-Mills Chapel with the Rev. Don Smith officiating. Burial will be at Ashland Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born July 9,1941, in Savanna, she was the daughter of Earl and Mary Adeline (Kimp) Hendershot. She grew up in McAlester and graduated from McAlester High School.

She married O.C. Hawkins on Oct. 28, 1961, in Quanta, Texas. They lived in several different places for a while, including the east coast, the west coast and Texas, before settling in McAlester in 1976.

She went to work at the hospital and received training as a phlebotomist. She worked as a phlebotomist at St. Mary’s Hospital, McAlester General West and then at McAlester Regional Health Center for 34 years.

She was a member of Second Baptist Church of McAlester.

Survivors include her husband, O.C. Hawkins; children and their spouses, Otho C. Hawkins III and his wife, Angela, of Fresno, Calif., Cecilia (Hawkins) Hensley and her husband, Charles Jr., of Daisy, and Asa Hawkins and his wife, Angela, of McAlester; a foster-son, Dale Cooper and his wife, Patty, of Ada; grandchildren, Kaisha Colbaugh, Natalie Hensley, Katie Hawkins, Ivana Hensley, Annie Hawkins, Jon Hensley, Asa Hawkins Jr., Landon Hawkins, Cynthia Hawkins, Alex Hawkins, Axel Hawkins, Angelo Hawkins and Dalena Cooper-Stiedley; three great-grandchildren, a half-sister, Mary Anita Fugitt, of Fort Worth, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Roy Hawkins; a grandson, Preston Cooper, and a brother, Lester Hendershot.
