Lawrence "Sonnie" "Pard" Beshear passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2013, in Oklahoma City.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bishop Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on (Wednesday) August 7th at First Freewill Baptist Church in McAlester, Ok. Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery following church services. Funeral arrangements are with Bishop Funeral Services, McAlester, Ok.
Born on November 12, 1928, in Blocker, Ok, he was the son of Leta Maurine "Sis" Camp Beshear and Adrian Banks "Dick" Camp. Sonnie served in the Army Air Corp in Biloxi, Mississippi from 1945 to 1947.
He was a miner with the Lone Star Steel Company and a journeyman plumber in Muskogee before going to work at the Naval (now Army) Ammunition Plant, retiring in 1987. Sonnie then drove the handicap school bus for McAlester Public Schools for a number of years.
He married Margaret Emily Hanes in 1950 and was married 52 years.
Sonnie was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and domino player extraordinaire. He traveled extensively with his family from Canada to Mexico, Alaska to Florida and many places in between. He was a passionate Oklahoma State University fan, traveling to attend bowl games, Final Four's and wrestling matches in support of the Cowboys.
Survivors include son, Dick Beshear, of Oklahoma City, and daughter, Sunny Gale and son-in-law, Terry Spinks, of McAlester. Grandchildren include Thomas and Rosanne Spinks, and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Spinks, of Oklahoma City, Matthew and Christina Spinks, of Stillwater, Ok, and granddaughter, Rachel and husband, Dan Morsch, and great-grandson, Aiden Morsch, of Arlington, Texas. Sisters, Louise Hutchison, of Krebs, Ok, and Lorraine Hollis and brother-in-law, Warren Hollis, of Adamson, OK, sister- in-law, Ruby Hanes, of Blue Springs, Missouri, and uncle, Dub Camp, of the Dow area, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was proceeded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret (Hanes) Beshear, with his parents, Sis and stepfather, Elmer Beshear, and father, Dick Camp, his brother, Elmer Lee Beshear, and sister Bonnie Ruth Nelson, and his grandparents William Cody and June Camp, and William Rudolph Evans, and Johnnie Elizabeth Evans.
