Eleanor Clara (Smart) Cox

McALESTER — Eleanor Clara (Smart) Cox was born March 7, 1938 to Jake and Florence (Feree) Smart in Celestine, OK. She died Friday, August 30, 2013 in McAlester, OK at the age of 75.  Eleanor graduated from Savanna High School in 1956.  On July 21, 1956 she married Charles R. (Chuck) Cox in Savanna.   They enjoyed a long, loving relationship of 57 years that included laughter and fun together.

Eleanor began working for the Credit Bureau of McAlester in 1962.  She was President and Co-owner of the Credit Bureau of McAlester from 1979 until her retirement in 1997.  Also during that time, she owned and operated the Credit Bureau of Durant.  She was an avid reader, kept up with current world events and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.   Eleanor’s pride and joy were her sons and their families.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, True Smart, Ellis Smart and Elvin Smart, and sister, Florene Scott.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Charles R. Cox, of Kiowa; sons, Gregory L. Cox and wife, Kathy, of Norman, OK; Bradley A. Cox and wife, Cheryl, of Lucas, TX; and Charles Stephan Cox and wife, Amy, of Tulsa, OK.  Also grandchildren include, Angela, Sean, Kimberly, Courtney, Lindsey, Mackenzie, Mason and Quentin Cox.  Eleanor is also survived by her sisters, Lou Nell Emery, Cleta Faye Fairless, sister-in-laws, Ruby Smart, Juanita Smart and Flora Smart, and brother-in-law, Herb Cox.

Services for Eleanor will be held Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home 1410 East Carl Albert Parkway, McAlester, OK.  Visitation will be Wednesday, September 4 from 5-7 pm at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Kiowa Cemetery following the service.  Pallbearers are Dennis Cox, Gary Emery, Earl Emery, Jason Scott, Jeremy Scott, and Glen Williams.  Honorary Pallbearers are Eleanor’s nieces and nephews.     Memorial contributions   may be made on Eleanor’s behalf   to The American Cancer Society.

    Alyce Yvonne Knight Lerblance was born on November 21, 1923, in Pittsburg, Oklahoma, to Fred C. and Letha Mae Knight.  She was the fourth of seven children born to Fred and Letha Knight.  Alyce grew up in Wilburton and graduated with the class of 1941 and was a graduate of Eastern State A & M in Wilburton.
