Robert Ted Edwards

McALESTER — Robert Ted Edwards, 84, a lifelong resident of McAlester, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Lewisville Medical Center in Lewisville, Texas, after complications from an accident in his home.

He was born June 10, 1928, in Ardmore and was given up for adoption and placed in the custody of The Orphanage Association of Oklahoma which was located in McAlester. On Sept. 5, 1928, he was adopted by Walter T. and Susie M. (Allen) Edwards, of McAlester, where he was raised.

When he was 16, he left home to join the military. He served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1949 and was a World War II veteran.

He married Carolyn Gard on Oct. 31, 1952, in St. Joseph, Mich. For several years after their marriage he was employed as a civil engineer.

In 1962, he and his wife made a decision to return to McAlester to raise their family.

He loved McAlester and the surrounding area and he was very devoted to his family.

His interests included agriculture, ranching, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed politics and was active in the Republican Party.

Survivors include a sister, Helen Sadler; four daughters, Lynda Hardwick and Mike, of Norman, Sandy Ammons-Kirkpatrick and Mark, Dallas, Texas, Debbie Rozek and Joe, Burke, Va., and Roberta Jenkins and Joe, Dallas; one son, Robert Allen Edwards, Everett, Wash.

Also, 10 grandchildren, Dylan Mackey, Heath Mackey, Jackie Ammons, Paul Ammons and Lauren, Amber (Wilkerson) Marchand and Sterling, Gary Wilkerson, Ashley Rozek, Bryan Jenkins, Christopher Parker and Scott Parker, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn, in 1990, and a sister, Margie Beets.

Memorials may be made to Boy Scouts of America and Alzheimer’s' Foundation.

    Alyce Yvonne Knight Lerblance was born on November 21, 1923, in Pittsburg, Oklahoma, to Fred C. and Letha Mae Knight.  She was the fourth of seven children born to Fred and Letha Knight.  Alyce grew up in Wilburton and graduated with the class of 1941 and was a graduate of Eastern State A & M in Wilburton.

    Heaven opened its gates for Bette Jo Williams, 84, on Saturday, July 19, 2014, following a brief illness with pancreatic cancer. Bette lived in McAlester, OK, for 60 years. She moved to Edmond, OK, two months ago in order to be closer to her sons and family members. Bette was born on the family farm near Washington, OK, on March 11, 1930.
