Bobby “Bob” R. Kanimaya, 71, of Blanco, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, in Kiowa.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Kiowa Church of Christ with Daniel Winningham officiating. Burial will be at Blanco Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.
Born Jan. 22, 1942, in Talihina, he was the son of James and Alice (Tucker) Kanimaya. He grew up in Blanco and attended school at Pittsburg, graduating from Pittsburg High School with the Class of 1960. He then attended Rutherford Metropolitan School of Business in Dallas, Texas.
He joined the United States Army and served as a payroll clerk until his honorable discharge.
He worked for Western Union Telegraph Company for 10 years in Dallas. He then began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and was transferred to Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Sallisaw and McAlester during his 23 years of service.
Following his retirement from Southwestern Bell, he began working for Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home as a funeral assistant.
He was a member of the Kiowa Church of Christ.
Survivors include his sisters, Ola Mae Hatridge and Stella Joplin, both of McAlester, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Alice Kanimaya; brothers, Carl Kanimaya and James “Junior” Kanimaya, and two sisters, Augusta Ashworth and Geneva Thomason.
Pallbearers will be Robert Daniel, Larry Christman, Dub Sartor, Walter Battles, Dwayne Shores, Greg Shores and Dan Isom.
Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Williams, Thomas Nally, Eddy Ellis, Gail Shannon, Rick Christman, James “Bub” Thomason, Hank Thomason, John Whetsel, Kelly Joplin and Mary Joplin.
