Ervan ‘Pokey’ Johnson
Ervan “Pokey” Johnson, 59, of McAlester, died Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at McAlester Regional Health Center.
Funeral arrangements are pending with Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.
Kenneth Wayne Wilson Sr.
Kenneth Wayne Wilson Sr., 73, of McAlester, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at Unity Health Center in Shawnee.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Brumley-Mills Chapel with the Rev. Clarence Brinkley officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
Born Oct. 19, 1933, in Morton, Texas, he was the son of Kenneth Arthur and Ethel (Neagle) Wilson. He grew up there and married Beverly June “Judy” Strode on May 6, 1960, in McAlester. At that time they made their home in McAlester and he had lived here since then.
He was a rancher and enjoyed working with his cattle. He also operated a custom hay bailing business for 30 years.
He was accomplished at woodworking and his pride in his work showed in the furniture he built. He was also an expert gunsmith and enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Deanna Scruggs and her husband, Curtis, of Oklahoma City; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth Wilson Jr. and his wife, Stephanie, of Indianola, and Virgil Wilson and his wife, Tanja, of McAlester.
Also, eight grandchildren, Heather Lee Wilson, Oliver Ackel, Christopher Smith, KayCea Scruggs, Jeremy Scruggs, Chad Scruggs, Blake Wilson, Bryce Wilson; great-grandchildren, Austin Scruggs, Karsyn Scruggs and Aerial Ackel.
And, one sister, Lois Ellison, Big Springs, Texas; brothers-in-law, Harold Strode and his wife, Reba, of McAlester, and Josh Messenger, Red Oak, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Virgil Wilson, Lindsey Grant, Chuck Strode, William Ross Selman, Cliff Eagleston and Greg Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rogers Johnston, J. B. Beale, Jimmy Lee, Ross Selman, Chad Scruggs, Jeremy Scruggs and Christopher Smith,
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Judy; sister, Christine Messenger, and a brother, Butch Wilson.
