District 7 state Sen. Richard Lerblance, D-Hartshorne, says he put a lot of thought into his decision not to seek re-election this year. If he was re-elected this year, Lerblance would have to step down after two years, mid-way through the four-year term, because of a state law limiting legislators to 12 years in office.

That would have made it necessary to hold a special election to fill the District 7 Senate seat in 2014.
