Now there are three — candidates for the Ward 2 McAlester City Council seat, that is.

Gloria Reeves, who had filed as a candidate for the Ward 2 city council post on Monday, officially withdrew as a candidate on Thursday.

“I had to,” Reeves said. “I didn’t meet the eligibility requirements.”

Reeves said she hadn’t been aware of a provision in the election resolution which required all candidates for the McAlester city council to have lived in the city for at least two years.

“I thought of myself as a resident,” she said, saying she had spent a lot of time in the city since moving to the area.
