Concern grows over rise of drug-resistant bacteria


WASHINGTON — Concern has risen in the medical community over the rise of drug-resistant bacteria.

Six patients at the National Institutes of Health, the federal government's premier health research center, died in 2011 in as a result of an infection that spread quickly and proved immune to most antibiotics.

The hospital took extreme steps to ward off the infection, and the episode wasn't made public until last August.
