Mary Lou (Pitts) Whorton, 58, of Arrowhead Estates, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at her home in Arrowhead Estates.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marvin Dunn officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born May 22, 1951, in McAlester, to Thomas Aaron and Willie Earlene (Rowell) Dobson, she was later adopted by her stepfather, William Melvin Pitts. She grew up here and married Ray Dean Whorton on June 13, 1967, in McAlester. She had worked at Seamprufe/Komar for several years as a seamstress. She also worked as a waitress at some local restaurants. She enjoyed collecting antiques and jewelry, photography and writing stories and poetry. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was a member of the Canadian Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ray Dean Whorton, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Donald Brewer, of Canadian; two sons and daughters-in-law, Willie and Christine Whorton, of McAlester, Jimmie and Tonya Whorton, of Canadian.

Also, 11 grandchildren, Dakota Ray Whorton, Jessica Diane Whorton, Wesley Robert Whorton, Cheyenne Ranee Whorton, and Brooke Spears, all of McAlester, Caleb Dean Whorton, Amanda Michelle Brown Brewer, Shelby Brewer, Chelsey Brewer, Katylan Brewer and Jacob Brewer, all of Canadian.

And, five brothers, Tom Aaron Dobson, Wayne Pitts, Melvin Pitts Jr., Walter Pitts and Loren Bevans, all of McAlester; a sister, Wanda Rowell, of Missouri, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her adopted father; a daughter, Teresa Earlene Whorton; a brother, Jim Dobson, and grandparents, Ruby and Lum Rowell.
