HARTSHORNE — Fearing the Wilburton Lady Diggers’ outside shooting, the Hartshorne Lady Miners couldn’t double-team Wilburton forward Kelbie Moon the way many teams have. Instead, they tried single coverage against Moon, leaving four other defenders to contest outside shots.
The strategy stopped neither Moon nor the Diggers’ guards.
Brookelyn Saxon scored 22 points and Moon scored 16, powering the Diggers to a 55-38 win against the Miners on Tuesday at Taylor Gymnasium in Hartshorne.
Despite the win, Wilburton remains second in the Black Diamond Conference behind Talihina. Wilburton can clinch at least a share of the conference title by beating Talihina on Friday.
Wilburton swept Hartshorne in the 2012-13 season-series, 4-0.
