Blakely and Lady Cougars too much for Lady Buffs

McALESTER — It took about eight minutes, but once Ada junior Aaliyah Blakely started asserting herself, no McAlester defender could stop her.

Blakely scored 30 points, powering the Lady Cougars to a 44-30 win against the Lady Buffaloes on Tuesday at Bob Brumley Gymnasium.

With her team down 15-11 early in the second quarter, Blakely scored out of the low post off a pass from sophomore teammate Olivia Wells. Following two game-tying free throws from Menee Thomsen, Blakely scored again to give the Lady Cougars their first lead of the game.

The plays began an 18-0 run by the Lady Cougars that continued until midway through the third quarter,
