McALESTER — The Quinton High School cross country teams just keep getting stronger. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams improved on their 10th-place finishes in 2011 at the 2012 2A cross country state on October 20 at Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee.
Quinton’s girls finished ninth, while its boys jumped all the way to second overall.
Courtney Taylor, who finished sixth individually as a freshman last year, starred for the girls’ team. She finished the 3,200-meter run in 12 minutes and 44 seconds, taking second overall.
“We knew we had her, but she wasn’t going to carry us,” Quinton coach Laura Gragg said of Taylor. She added that her relatively inexperienced Lady Savages set a goal of just finishing in the top 10, which they accomplished.
