Kirby Needham completed a throw to Knell on the 2-point conversion to make it 22-6, then Kirby rushed 5 yards for a touchdown in the fourth.
Jake Lemons had two interceptions for the Savages. The Diggers’ only touchdown came on a fumble Cody Arnold recovered in the end zone.
“The defense actually pitched a shutout,” Reeder said. “We gave them a score on offense. I was very proud of my defense playing a spread offense like that.”
Pocola 73, Haileyville 29
Pocola scored 67 points in the first half, quickly putting away the game. But rather than collapse, Haileyville responded by scoring more points than it did all of last season.
The Warriors still lost, but for this very young team, it’s another step in the right direction.
“We kicked the first field goal that I can remember Haileyville kicking,” Haileyville coach Dennis Ford said, referring to Brian Gibson’s 21-yarder.
Carlos Manus rushed for two touchdowns for Haileyville, while Rico Richardson rushed for one. Jordan Smith recorded 125 receiving yards, including a 44-yard touchdown pass from Seth Davidson.
