Slawson, Cowgirls dominate Warriorettes

KIOWA — Kiowa senior Madi Slawson pitched a three-inning one-hitter and batted 3-for-3 with two runs and five RBIs. The Cowgirls run-ruled the Warriorettes in three innings, 12-0, Thursday at Cowgirl Field.

The Cowgirls effectively ended the game in the bottom of the first inning, sending 13 to the plate and scoring nine runs. Slawson led off with a double down the third base line, then scored one batter later on a triple to left-center by Rayleigh Beck.

Rylee Smith walked and stole second, then both Beck and Smith came home on a double to the left field wall by Alex Hackler that made it 3-0 Cowgirls. Hackler then scored on a double by Elizabeth Mitchell, again to left field.

Indianola pitcher Ruth Bullard got Bless Roberts to ground out to shortstop for the first out, but Miranda Stiles doubled to left to score Mitchell and push the lead to five. Bailey Williams got on via a hit-by-pitch and took second on a passed ball, and though Bullard struck out Breanna Mitchell, the ball got away from catcher Ashley Clark, allowing Stiles to score and Breanna to reach.

Up for the second time in the inning, Slawson tripled to the left field wall to score two more and make it 8-0 Cowgirls. Smith singled to left two batters later to drive in Slawson for a nine-run lead.
