CROWDER — Crowder survived blowing its lead in the second game, scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth to beat the Savanna Bulldogs, 7-5. Crowder won its first game against Savanna, 17-2, completing the two-game sweep in the Class 2A District 30 Tournament on Thursday at Douglas Smith Memorial Field in Crowder.
Hunter Motley reached base with one in the bottom of the sixth when Savanna pitcher Alex Owens drilled him in the back. Crowder coach Larry Tucker called for a hit-and-run with Josh Motley at the plate, and Josh singled past Savanna second baseman Lane Martin to put runners on first and third.
That brought up Austin Weeks for the Demons. Owens threw a strike to Weeks on his first pitch, forcing Josh to run on the next pitch to avoid a potential strike-out/throw-out double play.
Savanna catcher Collin Harbison threw to second on the steal, allowing Hunter to race home for a 6-5 Crowder lead. Shortstop Seth Burke couldn’t field the throw cleanly, allowing Josh to reach second and get to third.
Weeks added an insurance run with an RBI groundout that made it 7-5 Crowder.
