McALESTER — McAlester senior Troy Meadows has been a Buffalo since the eighth grade. But even as a pre-teen growing up in Savanna, Meadows knew he’d one day don the black and gold.
“I know the baseball tradition here, and I’ve always wanted to play baseball at McAlester,” Meadows said Saturday. “I’d always come up here and watch guys play.”
Meadows played JV baseball up through part of his sophomore year. He moved up to varsity after Buffs coach Jackie Cumbie watched him throw out a runner in a game at Ada.
“We were at that time looking for a catcher, and that was the play that said yeah, he can at least throw it,” Cumbie said.
