McALESTER — The McAlester running game finally ran into a defense both strong enough to handle the Buffaloes' strong offensive line and smart enough not to get fooled by their quarterback counters and other misdirection runs. And with the run game stopped, the Buffaloes had to air it out against the Bishop Kelley Comets.
Caden Pratt had some success throwing the ball, but Cade Harkins dropped what would've been a go-ahead touchdown with under two minutes left in the game, then lost a jump-ball battle with Comets senior Austin Morris on the final play of the game to give the Comets a 26-22 victory Friday night at Hook Eales Stadium.
Morris also rushed for a second-quarter 66-yard touchdown, helping the Comets stay undefeated within the district. Bishop Kelley just needs to beat Tulsa Memorial next week to clinch the district, while the Buffaloes — who at 4-1 within the district have already clinched a playoff birth — need to win their last two games and have the Comets lose next week to have a chance.
