McALESTER — McAlester tennis coach Chad Waller is excited. He’s been thinking about the 2013 Buffalo tennis teams since volleyball season — which he also coaches — ended in the fall, and quite possibly even before that.
“We’re going to tear ‘em up,” Waller said Thursday.
To be fair, the Buffs have been tearing up the tennis courts for as long as Waller has been here. In Waller’s seven years as coach, he said, all eight of his teams — boys’ and girls’ first and second singles, boys’ and girls’ first and second doubles — have qualified for the state tournament.
The Buffs’ season begins today with the McAlester Freeze Out. Nine teams including McAlester will participate, with the boys playing at the courts behind Bob Brumley Gymnasium and the girls playing at Chadick Park and the McAlester Country Club.
Matches begin at 8 a.m. and will continue into the late afternoon.
