McALESTER — Team Oilman scored eight runs in the top of the second, then continued scoring in its remaining three innings to run-rule the Firm, 15-4 in five innings in Tuesday’s recreation-league men’s softball championship at the Pittsburg County Softball Complex in McAlester.
Though an RBI sacrifice fly from Keith Creekmore put The Firm up 1-0 in the bottom of the first, the lead lasted exactly one batter into the top of the second, which John David Spears led off with a solo home run to right field. Cody Ott got all the way to third on an outfield error, then Justin Klusak put Oilman’s 2-1 with an RBI single to left — a lead the team would never relinquish.
Klusak scored two batters later on a single by Clayton Pinson. Broderick Crawford the made it 4-1 with an RBI single two batters after Pinson.
Crawford went 3-for-4 Tuesday and also reached on an error, driving in three runs and scoring two more out of the Oilman’s leadoff spot.
Cody Parker made it 6-1 with a single into shallow left field, then Spears homered for the second time in the inning, knocking one just over the left-field fence for an 8-1 lead. Spears said both homers came on inside pitches.
