McALESTER — McAlester put on 23 baserunners in four innings, overwhelming Indianola 19-1 in Thursday’s summer softball opener at the Pittsburg County Softball Complex in McAlester.
After a scoreless top of the first, McAlester basically put the game away with a bottom of the first in which it batted eight and scored the maximum of five runs. Leadoff hitter Vhitney Garner drew a walk, then Warriorettes pitcher Ruth Bullard hit Jaleed Serhan and Stacey Washington to load the bases.
Bullard got Lady Buffs cleanup hitter Cheyenne Selman, a senior already verbally committed to play softball at the University of Central Oklahoma, to foul out, but Bullard then hit Courtney Smith to force in a run. April Calistro made it 3-0 Lady Buffs with a single to left field.
Calistro also delivered an RBI triple in the bottom of the second. She had enough time to cross home plate for an inside-the-park home run, but the Lady Buffs reached five runs when Smith crossed home plate, automatically ending the inning.
Kylee Impson’s two-RBI single to left automatically ended the first inning with the Lady Buffs up 5-0. That was more than enough run support for Impson, who pitched a four-inning no hitter, giving up one unearned run on two walks and four strikeouts.
