McALESTER — As Emily Brooks transitioned from Frink-Chambers to McAlester High School for her freshman year, she faced a dilemma. At Frink, Brooks had served as student manager for the Lady Eagles softball, basketball and track teams.
Moving up to high school, Brooks wanted something more, but she didn’t consider herself all that athletic.
“I wanted a hobby,” Brooks, now a senior at MHS, said Tuesday. “I wanted to go into high school and find a hobby that I could play for the rest of my life.”
Meghan Dewbery, another Frink-Chambers graduate and one of Brooks’ best friends, was looking for a new sport as well, and the two decided to join McAlester’s golf team.
“It just seemed like a fun game,” Brooks said. “I knew that I wouldn’t be able to play tennis when I was 70, but I’d be able to play golf.”
