McALESTER — Even if no team signed her before the fall, Savanna senior Sierra Loud planned to try to walk onto the softball team at whichever college she attended.
Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College in Moore made such plans unnecessary, signing Loud on Wednesday at Savanna High School.
“It was like a relief, like I knew I was going to play, and it was exciting,” Loud said right after signing.
Hillsdale softball coach Brianna Deaton said Loud will play shortstop for the Lady Saints. With Hillsdale’s 2012-13 starting shortstop graduating, there’ll be an open competition for that spot during the preseason, and Deaton said Loud could definitely win the position.
“That’s kind of the great thing about a small school, is freshmen do have a chance,” Deaton said. “I kind of coach on the stance that the best player’s going to play, whether it’s a freshman or a senior.”
