McALESTER — The Tulsa Memorial Chargers banged out 12 hits and forced six McAlester errors Friday at Mike Deak Field, run-ruling the Buffaloes, 14-1 in five innings.
With the win, Memorial clinched second place and a home regional tournament. Coupled with a 5-1 loss to Pryor on Saturday, McAlester finished fourth in its district and will be at Claremore for its regional.
To even have a chance at second place in the district, the Buffs would’ve needed to beat the Chargers by eight or more runs. When the Chargers scored six off Buffs starter Brandon Green in the top of the second, that pretty much put the game away.
The Buffs could’ve escaped the second down just a run when shortstop Dalton Wood fielded a grounder from Trevor Boone, but Wood’s throw pulled Grant Sontag off the bag at first, allowing two runs to score. Bob Larson then doubled to right to drive in two more and Adam Keller singled to left to make it 6-0 Chargers.
